 Ann Melion, “Big Momma” age 71, of Hammond passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 4, 2016. She was born July 26, 1944, in Frankfort, IN to Edward Gather and Helen Marie (Nee Emery) Abston. She married Joseph Melion on May 4, 1963 and he preceded her in death April 26, 2012.

She is survived by her two sons: Michael J. Melion (Connie) and Anthony J. Melion; two brothers in law Walter and Clarence (Wanda) Melion, one sister in law Mary (Jack) Stinson. Several nieces and nephews including two very special nieces; Nicole “Baby Girl” and Jasmyne “Peanut”, and very special friends Jack Berry, Raymond and Debbie Lacko.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph; sister Faye Freels, five brothers, Gene, Johnny, Jack, Gilbert and William Abston, five nephews, Jess Freels Sr., Bryan, Mick, Stevie and Curtis Abston; one niece, Linda Sue Abston and close friends Betty Gregory, Pat Dalton and Winnie Cameron.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Pastor Jeffrey Hannon officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Monday, February 8, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 1:00 p.m.

Ann was a longtime Hammond resident and attended Hessville Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Fund or Hospice of the Calumet Area.
