Edward W. Kocur, age 96, of Hammond, entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 1, 2017.

Survived by his loving sister, Genevieve Wojtowicz,

Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Sophia Kocur; four brothers: Frank, Joseph, Walter and John Kocur; three sisters: Bernice Buttinger, Katherine Petertyl, and Evelyn Green.

 Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 directly at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7137 Arizona Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with a mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Charles Mosley celebrant. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, September 8th at Bocken Funeral Home. 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. and on Saturday at church prior to the mass from 9 - 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond.

 Ed who was also known as Doc, Peewee and Edziu was born and raised in East Chicago. He was a graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt High School class of 1939. He joined the Navy to serve our country during WWII aboard the USS ABSD #1. Ed was a charter member of the American Legion Allied Post 369 and was a retired pipefitter of union local 597.  Not having children of his own, Ed invested in the lives of not only his many nieces, nephew’s great nieces and nephews but also many other boys as a Troop Leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a longtime faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and member of the holy name society.

He was a loving brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed.
