Lionel “LJ” Parr Jr., age 92, of Merrillville, entered into the presence of the Lord on Monday, April 2, 2018.
He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Roseann Parr (Nee Fields); two children: Pastor David (Sheila) Simpson and Jean (Clyde) Wolfe; ten grandchildren: Kevin (Jennifer), Kyle (Angie) Simpson, Kristen (Chris) Archer, Vicki (Brice) Mac Roberts, Adam (Rachel) Wolfe, Nicole (Andy) Robinson, Zachary (Lyndsey), Cody (Kris), Ansley and Peyton Simpson; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Thelma (late Shirley) Moake; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Preceded in death by his first wife Bessie Parr; parents: Lionel and Mary Parr; eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. DIRECTLY at Bible Baptist Church 4720 Orchard Drive, Highland, IN 46322 with Pastor Michael Poole officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Friday morning at church from 10 a,m, until the time of the service. Burial will be private at Memory Lane Cemetery, Crown Point, IN. Services entrusted to Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Ave. Hammond (Hessville).
LJ was a long time resident of the Calumet area. He was a proud army veteran of WWII having served under General Patton. He is retired from Inland Steel after 35 years of service and is a member of the 25-year club. He was a faithful Christian man and member of Bible Baptist Church. He is a former member of First Baptist Church of Hammond where he served as greeter, 1st grade Sunday School teacher, choir member and served on the Deacon Board for 37 years. LJ was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many.
