 Risel Maldonado Sr., age 85, of Hammond, was escorted by angels to his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 18, 2016.

Awaiting him in heaven was his beloved wife of 63 years, Manuela  (nee Rodriguez); survivors include;

Daughters: Maria (Bill) Yost

Dora Maldonado,

Juanita (Walter) Croson,

Sandra (Tracy) Stevens,

Susan Maldonado, Norma (Bill) Allen;

Sons: Risel, Jr. (Ismelda) Maldonado,

Ruben (Annette) Maldonado, Robert (Denise) Maldonado;

20 grandchildren: John, Gar, Angelina, Risel III, Donald, Sabrina, Crystal, Walter, Natalie, Mario Jr., Selena, Charlie, Marissa, Alicia, Cara, Jamie, Alexis, Derek, Kristen, Alyssa.

4 great grandchildren;

Preceded in death by his daughter, Rosa Maria Hennessey and parents, Carlos and Eufracina Maldonado.

Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Risel’s life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Grace Church, 3025 Highway Avenue, Highland with Father Edward Moszur celebrant. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville). A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 3:30 p.m. There will also be a time of viewing at the church on Saturday morning before the mass from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

 Risel was born and raised in Jimenez, Mexico and moved to the Calumet Area where he raised his family; while also working several jobs where he was always well loved and admired by all. He enjoyed traveling and living life to it’s fullest.

Risel was a very loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who has shown much kindness and devotion to his family and friends. He was courageous and inspirational and he brought an abundance of joy and laughter to all who knew and loved him.
