Wayne Leibengood, age 82, of Lansing, IL was born on November 5, 1934 and entered into eternal life on Friday, March 31, 2017.

He is now reunited with his beloved wife of 58 years, Joan Grace Leibengood (Nee Fritz).
He is survived by his two children, Cindy (Terry) Cheek of Griffith and David Leibengood of Crete, IL;
Proud grandpa to his grandchildren:
Kim (Pat) O’Leary of Griffith,
Greg (Mary ) Cooper of Crown Point and
Robert Cheek of Griffith;
He is also survived by his brother, Dale Leibengood of Waco, Texas; many nieces, nephew, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of dear friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Marie Leibengood; three brothers Bob , Wally and Roger Leibengood.
Wayne was a longtime faithful member of State Street Baptist Church currently Cornerstone SBC Church of Hammond. He was retired from both Ronwal Trucking and Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad.  Wayne was one of the founding members of the Goodnewsman Quartet.  Wayne taught Sunday school and was music director at State Street Baptist Church for many years. He was a graduate of Thornton Fractional High School Class of 1952. On June 5, 1954 he married the love of his life, Joan Grace Fritz. Some of his hobbies included bowling, working jigsaw puzzles and playing shortstop on the State Street Baptist softball team and singing gospel music. His greatest pride and joy were his 3 grandchildren. Wayne is also survived by his “grand-dogs”, Wrigley , Maddux, Rere, Stratus and Sadie. He was an avid Chicago “Cubs” fan, “who completed the last item on his bucket list when they won the World Championship”. Wayne will best be remembered for his kindness toward others and his deep and abiding faith in Christ.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with viewing from 9:30 until the time of service DIRECTLY at HopeSpring formerly First Baptist Church of Griffith 324 North Colfax, Griffith, IN with Pastor Bill Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, April 6,2017 DIRECTLY at HopeSpring Church from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
