Maxine “Max” Jeffries

Maxine Jeffries, age 84, of Hammond, entered into the gates of Heaven on Saturday, January 27, 2018.
She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herby and Ethel Jeffries; nine brothers: Ovid, Glenn, Harold, Leo, Kenneth, Cecil, Bacil, Delbert and Jack; three sisters: Lois, Edra and Etta Fay.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. directly at First Baptist Church, Jack Hyles Memorial Auditorium, 523 Sibley, Hammond with Pastor John Wilkerson officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Memory Lane Memorial Park, Crown Point. Friends are invited to meet for a time of visitation on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 1:30 pm. until 3:30 p.m.
Maxine was born and raised in Oklahoma and was the youngest of 13 children. Maxine moved to Hammond in 1962 and joined First Baptist Church where she has been a faithful member. She began a deaf ministry at the church and was the Deaf Director for many years, until her retirement. She is a member of the National Association of the Deaf, Registered Interpreters of the Deaf and Professional Interpreters for the Deaf. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Best Years Club, a member of the Deaf Circle and Women’s Missionary Society. Max was a friend to everyone, she had a great sense of humor, a loving spirit and was fun to be around.
