Chris Lannin, age 63, of Hammond, passed away much too soon on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. He is survived by two children: Stacy Lannin and Shawn Lannin; three grandchildren: Hailey Lannin, Dominick and Arianna Soco; ex-wife and special friend, Laurie Lannin; six siblings: Carol (Dave) Moore, Connie Lannin, Craig (Janani) Lannin, Charice (Randy) Salach, Cary (Christine) Lannin and Cathleen (Doug) Main; numerous nieces, including special niece, Jill Mirise, nephews, cousins, friends and his dog, Suzie. Chris was preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) and Judy Lannin and many good friends. Chris was born and raised in Hammond and was a lifetime resident. He was a 1973 graduate of Morton High School. He graduated from Indiana University (IU) in 1977. Chris will be remembered for his work in sports radio broadcasting. He devoted many hours of his time to covering local high school sports on WJOB radio with the Region Sports Network. Chris played for many different softball teams and coached Hessville Little League. He also enjoyed being involved and coaching with the Hessville Hoops. Chris inherited the title of “unofficial mayor of Hessville” from his father, Bill because everywhere he went someone knew him. He brightened many people's lives every day with his sense of humor. Chris was a loving and devoted father, grandfather “appa”, brother and friend who will be dearly missed. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home with Father Steve Kosinski officiating, followed by burial. Friends are invited to meet with the family for visitation on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville).
