Donald Smith, age 69, of Hobart went home to meet his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 27, 2018.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 15 years; Lynn M Smith, 3 children: Mike (Fiancée Christine Harrison) Smith, Scott (Polly) Smith and Cheryl (Bryan) Mansell; 2 Step Daughters: Amber (Kevin) Cummings and Melody Raganyi-Reyes; 5 Grandchildren: Lucas, Jeffery, Savannah, David and Emily; 6 Step Grandchildren: Lydia, Kevin Jr., Nicholas, Daniel, Julian and Jasmine.  

 Preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Lydia Smith;

Brother, William Smith and Step Son James Ryan Raganyi

 A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) at 5 p.m. with Pastor C. James Facklam officiating.  Friends may meet with the family for a time of visitation from 3:00 p.m. until the service 5:00 p.m.

 Don was born in San Antonio, Texas and grew up in the Oak Lawn, IL area. He was a Lieutenant for the Richton Park, IL fire department with 25 years of service and worked as a welder for Electro-Motive Diesel. Don was a member of the fraternal order of Eagles 3117 serving as trustee as well as bar manager. He enjoyed building cars, fishing, exotic fish tanks, cooking and chasing fires.

Donald was a natural born leader, devoted husband, a kind and loving father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed.
