Oscar “Chaparro” Medina Guerrero, age 74, of Hammond, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Ramona Guerrero, nee Rodriguez; five daughters: Dianna (Carlos) Sanchez, Elvira Perez, Marcela (Mark) Thompson, Elizabeth (Joey) Rentas, Veronica (Casey) Ramos;
14 grandchildren; three sisters: Lety (late, Rueben) Villarreal, Blanca (Beto) Salazar, Silvia (Jesse) Garza; sister-in-law, Dora Guerrero; many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his parents: Marcos and Julia Guerrero; one sister, Olga Guerrero and one brother, Javier Guerrero.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar Street, East Chicago with viewing from 9:15 a.m. until the mass at 10:00 a.m. with Father Terry Steffens celebrant. Followed by burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm., with prayers at 6:30 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville).
 Oscar was born in Mexico and moved to the Calumet Area at the age of 14. He was a 1962 graduate of East Chicago Washington High School. “Chaparro”, as he was affectionately known, worked as a machinist and retired from Inland Steel Co. He was a member of the Inland 25 year club. He was a longtime faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. His favorite pastime was dancing and listening to music. Oscar was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be dearly missed.
