Phyllis J. Vauter, age 91, of Hammond passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2017.
She is survived by her four children: George, Joseph, Andrew and Louis Vauter ; two daughters-in-law: Suzette Vauter and Gussie Surma; five grandchildren: Nicole (Paul) Yankauskas, George (Paige) Vauter, Andrew Jr., Katelynn and Kelley Vauter; two great grandchildren: Elise and Lucas; numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, of 41 years, George Vauter; parents, Josef and Alice Doppler; two brothers; three sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with a time of visitation from 10:30 a.m. until the Mass at 11:00 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Father Charles Mosely celebrant. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Phyllis was a lifetime resident of Hammond, a graduate of Hammond Tech. A long time faithful parishioner and past Eucharistic minister of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. She was an avid bowler well into her 70’s. Phyllis was a hard worker having worked at American Steel Foundries, Sunbeam Appliance, SeaLife Pets and worked up until 2013 at the Henry Company.
Toot’s as she was affectionately known will be remembered for her sense of humor and a strong faith in God. She touched so many lives and was a true inspiration to all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
