Albert E. Molder, age 97, of the Woodmar section of Hammond, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. Survived by his son, Alan (Laura) Molder and daughter, Carol (Robert) Shimkus; four grandchildren: Sherrie and Steven Molder and Kristy and Brian Shimkus; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his parents,; loving wife Dolores and fishing buddies, brothers: John, Joe and Hank. They had many good times at Kilworry Resort in Pine River, MN
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 with prayers at Bocken Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7137 Arizona Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Rev. Charles Mosley celebrant. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Saturday morning at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Al was a life long resident of the Calumet area. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in East Chicago, class of "39" and attended Purdue and Indiana Universities. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force during world war II. Al had special pilot training and completed courses in meteorology at Chanute AFB airfield in Rantoul, Illinois. He was also a qualified private pilot. Al retired from L.T.V. Steel and then became active in Real Estate. He enjoyed working for Kovacik Real Estate in Whiting, IN. He was a member of the American Legion Allied Post 369 in East Chicago, and was happy to be with his legion friends at monthly meetings. He was a longtime faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, member of the Choir, Holy Name Society and other ministry groups. Al was also a member of Metra Golden Agers for many years. In lieu of flowers memorials in Al's name may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
