Obituary

Alexander Curiel

Alexander Curiel of Hammond, IN passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 21, 1925, in San Francisco, CA to Victoria (Ochoa) and Roman Curiel. He spent his 101 years on this earth with joy and love. No one was a stranger to him. He loved to travel and took his family on several camping trips throughout this beautiful country as well as Canada and Mexico. He also traveled to Italy to visit the Vatican in 2000 for the Jubilee and Belize, where he refused to swim with the sharks. After retirement from Inland Steel in 1987, he and his wife Angeline enjoyed several years of travel meeting and making so many friends. It was a wonderful time of his life and he oftened shared those memories. He worked very hard his whole life for his family and instilled in his children the importance of a strong work ethic. He loved his family especially watching his grandchildren grow up. He had a funny story about each of them and loved to share it. He loved all animals, especially his dogs and horses. Above all, he was a comedian, always making jokes and making people laugh. He had a hearty laugh that will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his children, Frederick (Carol), Carolyn (Mark), Mike, Isabel James (David), Bernadette Sahulcik (Rick), Louie, 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and his sister Berenice Valencia. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Angeline (Ortiz), his son Alex and his wife Patricia, his twin brother Patrick, brothers Leo, Eduardo, his parents Victoria and Roman.

We are very thankful that he was able to spend his life at home, except for the last month, due to the loving care of his son Louie and daughter Bernadette.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 8 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church 7140 Arizona Avenue, Hammond, IN 46323.
