Alice Dolores Desmond age 92, a lifelong resident of Hammond, IN, peacefully passed away from a short illness on April 18, 2026. Alice was born on June 19, 1933 in Hammond, IN to Allen and Irene Jazyk. In 1958 Alice married John Desmond in Hammond, IN. Alice is survived by one son, Paul of Hammond, IN, one daughter, Susan (Joe) Timko of Monticello, IN; 2 grandsons: Steven (Sarah) Desmond of Hull, GA and Andrew (Lindsay) Timko of Huntersville, NC; 2 great grandsons, Alexander and Levi; one brother, Ken (Sandi) Jazyk of Schererville, IN; and many nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by John, her husband of 44 years, infant son Thomas, parents Allen and Irene Jazyk, brothers, Edward and Fred Jazyk and one sister, Florence Bush.
Family will gather at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) IN 46323 at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday April 22, 2026 to proceed to St. John-St. Joseph Cemetery, 1547-167th Street, Hammond, IN 46320 for an 11:30 A.M. graveside service officiated by Father Charles Mosley.
Alice graduated High School from Bishop Noll Institute in 1951. She met John while working at NIPSCO. She spent most of her life as a housewife and did work for a caterer serving weddings and funeral dinners for over 25 years. She enjoyed spending summers at the family cabin on Lake Shafer, Monticello, IN since 1970. Later in life she enjoyed taking senior citizen bus trips. Alice also enjoyed watching ice skating on tv and working crossword puzzles. Her grandsons were the apple of her eye. She loved when they would visit and always had a bag of candy ready for them. Alice was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Hammond, IN.
