Allie Boyd Matthews age 86, of Hammond passed away peacefully on Saturday January 5, 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Marie Schriver Matthews (nee Clausen)
3 children: Linda (Jerry) Maginot, James (Christy) Matthews, Jeffrey (Marlene) Matthews and 5 step children: Carol, William, Fred, John (Marianne) and Michael Schriver;
10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; one brother, W. E. Matthews;
one sister Eva Ann Riley;
Many nieces, nephews, dear friends and his cats Rambo and Whitey.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie "Louise" Matthews (Nee Holland), son, Larry Boyd Matthews; parents, Allie Henry and Myrtle Matthews; two sisters; and one brother.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Dan Nichols Minister, officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home.
Boyd was a longtime resident of the Calumet Area. He was born and raised in Sherman, Texas and settled in the region after his time in the military. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served during WWII on the USS Reno in the Pacific. He was a member of American Legion Post #232 for the past 26 years whose members will conduct services in the funeral home on Tuesday at 7pm. Boyd worked as a brick mason and retired from Inland Steel after 39 years of service. He was a member of the 25 year club. Boyd formerly attended the First Christian Church of Hessville. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed fishing and gambling and was a die hard Dallas Cowboy's fan. Boyd loved his family along with his cat's and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
