Amanda Lenore Turpin
Hammond
The world has lost a loving, caring soul with the passing of Amanda Lenore Turpin, whose two and a half year long battle with cancer came to a peaceful end on Friday, November 22, 2013. Amanda was only 36 years old. She is survived by her loving son, Michael Santos, her mother, Charlene Book, her cousins, Sarah and Corrina Kurcz, Tony Kurcz, and David Kurcz, as well as many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Bertis and Marvis Book, and her Aunt, Linda Kurcz.
Amanda was born and raised in Hammond, graduating from Morton Senior High School in 1995. She was employed for several years at the local Cracker Barrel, where she worked tirelessly to provide for her family. Vibrant and full of enthusiasm for life, Amanda always wanted to try new things. Up until her illness prevented her from doing so, she enjoyed long walks and hikes through the forest, horseback riding, canoeing, cross country skiing, and taking tae kwon do classes with her son; he was the center of her universe and she was the center of his. When she was not on the move, she enjoyed reading and going to the movies.
Amanda touched many people's lives, and her presence in this world made it a brighter place.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 2 to 6 pm at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue in Hessville, with services beginning at 5 pm officiated by celebrant Marjorie Kunch. Private cremation will follow.
