Anita Ardelean (nee Gherghin)
Anita Ardelean, age 92, of Hammond, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home, on October 3, 2023.
Anita was born on November 27, 1930 to Rebecca and Nicholas Gherghin in East Chicago, Indiana. After Anita graduated from Washington High School in 1949, she started her first job as a secretary at Youngstown Sheet and Tube. She later worked as a prep cook at various restaurants.
In 1956, Anita married John Joseph Ardelean, where John's brother, Reverend Gerard (Ted) Ardelean officiated his first Catholic wedding. They started a family; two daughters, Joann and Rosemary.
In 1992, Anita retired and spent her time enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reading Danielle Steele books, watching Perry Mason and Columbo, and cooking for everyone who visited. Her house was a gathering place and refuge for her daughter's friends, her grandchildren's friends and she was, "Grams" to everyone.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her parents. She is survived by her beloved family: Brother, David (Regina) Gherghin, her Daughters; Joann (Lester) Kerr and Rosemary (Mark) Housty, Grandchildren: Jason Rakos, Nicholas (Charlie) Rakos, Dustin (Jodie) Rakos, Sam Kerr and Gina Mantia, Steven Kerr, Great-Grand Children; Gabriella Hernandez, Brooklyn Rakos, Ben Rakos, Jack Rakos, Extended Family Member, Scott Rakos, Niece, Leah (Mike) Williams and Great Niece, Kali Williams, and other Nieces and Nephews.
"Grams" was such a strong woman and such a force, touching so many lives.
Visitation at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, Indiana, from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m on Thursday, October 5, 2023. Funeral service Friday October 6, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home with Father Charles Mosley officiating. Followed by burial at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond.
