Anne C. (nee, Furjel) Kopanda Lessie, age 89, of Hessville, was called home to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, January 8, 2012.
She is survived by 2 sons, Thomas (Terri) Kopanda and David (Gail Repay) Kopanda;
husband, Ernest Lessie;
many grandchildren and great grandchildren including, Kristian (Lauren Davis) Kopanda, Keith Kopanda and the Lessie, Donnelly, Winger and Sheets families;
sister, Helen (Wayne) Rueckert;
brother, Joseph (Monica) Furjel; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, Ludewig Kopanda; and parents, Andrew and Anne Furjel.
Funeral Prayers will be offered on Thursday January 12, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church,  7132 Arizona Avenue, Hammond (Hessville)  with Rev. Charles Mosley celebrant. Burial will follow at St. John-St. Joseph Cemetery in Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Wednesday, January 11th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Anne was born on March 6, 1922 in Czechoslovakia. She and her family moved to the United States and settled in East Chicago. Anne was a 1940 graduate of Washington High School. She moved to the Hessville section of Hammond in 1959 and joined Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church where she has been a faithful parishioner and member of the Altar Rosary Society and a member of First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, Branch 81.  Anne retired after working for many years in the cafeterias at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School and Caldwell School. She was an exceptional homemaker and loved gardening and baking "goodies" for her family. Anne will be remembered as a very faithful woman, whose family was her number one priority.
