Betty Ray Knight, age 95, of Hammond, was escorted by angels to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 8, 2014.
She is survived by 6 children: Kathleen Barlog,
Norbert "Marty" (Bonnie) Knight,
Mary Elizabeth Cantrell,
Margaret "Peggy" Goolsby,
Patricia DeGroot and Nancy (Gerard) Jendraszkiewicz;
12 grandchildren;
22 great grandchildren;
Many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Norbert Martin Knight, Sr.; parents, William and Madeline Ray; one brother, William J. Ray, Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Father Charles Mosley celebrant. Burial will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, June 12 th from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville). There will also be a time of viewing at the church on Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Betty was born and raised in Oak Park, IL until moving to Hammond in 1947 when she married her sweetheart, Norbert. She has been a longtime faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and a former member of the Rosary Society. Betty worked for 10 years at the Public Service Company of Northern IL before becoming a full time homemaker. She was a member of T.O.P.S. Chapter #717 for 40 years of which she was a member of K.O.P.S. for 35 years.
Betty loved to travel and she dearly loved her family; she was a sweet and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her memory to Salvation Army, 8225 Columbia Avenue, Munster, IN 46321.
