Bill Lee Vandersteen, age 84, of Hammond, entered peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, July 9, 2014.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Judith Kay (nee, Storey) Vandersteen;
five loving children: Bill L. (Sherry) Vandersteen,
Thomas Ray Vandersteen,
Timothy Dale (Judie) Vandersteen,
Cammie Jo (Butch Stanovich) Benson,
Rhonda Jean (Jeffrey) Wilson;
fourteen grandchildren,;
seventeen great grandchildren;
one great great grandchild;
numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Preceded in death by his wife, Leona Noreen (nee, Scott);
granddaughter, Melissa Nelson Schroth;
parents, Alfred and Grace Vandersteen;
two brothers: Alfred and Robert Vandersteen;
two sisters: Eileen Presley and Martha Faris and his faithful companion, "Mr. Chips" his chihuahua.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.

at Highland Church of the Nazarene, 9330 Kennedy Avenue, Highland with Pastor Ron Richmond officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.There will be a time of viewing at the church on Monday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the service at 9:00 a.m.
Bill was born on July 3,1930 in Danville, IL and has made his home in Hammond for the past seventy two years. Bill was a faithful member of Highland Church of the Nazarene where he has served as a board member, Sunday School Superintendent and he also sang in the choir.
Bill retired from Inland Steel after 37 years of service as a warehouse manager. He also worked at Strack & VanTil for 18 years and Home Depot for 7 years. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, softball, stamp and coin collecting and playing games. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family. Bill will best be remembered as a kind, loving, courageous, positive and honest man, who was a faithful husband, father, grandfather, great and great great grandfather and a dear friend to many.
