Bobby Gene Burgess, age 80, of Hammond, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family after a prolonged illness.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Ann Burgess (nee Daniels), one daughter: Diana Burgess, two grandsons: Brandon and Jonathan Burgess. One brother Edward (Peggy) Burgess and  sister, Linda McNeil; many nieces, nephews and dear friends and his dog Maggie.

Preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Cotas; two sisters: Norma Withrow and Sue Blue; one brother, Dudley Burgess.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond  (Hessville). Burial will be private.  Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Friday, July 31st at Bocken Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Bobby was born in Kilsyth, West Virginia on September 22, 1934, he served our country during the Korean War, as part of the 5th Marine Corps Dist. Bobby moved to the Hammond area a year before marrying the love of his life Shirley, on July 24, 1958. He was retired from LTV Steel after 34 years. Bobby enjoyed working in yard and being in the outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who was kind hearted and loved by many.
