Carl William Ahlfield, age 91, of Hammond, entered into the gates of heaven on Thursday, March 13, 2014.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Emma Ahlfield, (nee, Reeves);
2 children: Carletta (Carlos) Higginbottom,
David (Susan) Ahlfield;
5 grandchildren: Sarah (Jon) Beck,
Craig (Amber) Higginbottom,
Janet (Rob) Cloud,
Jaime (Doug) Linder
Michael (Noel) Walliser;
12 great grandchildren;
4 brothers: Jerome, Jim (Evelyn), Enoch (Edna) and
Herman (Mary) Ahlfield;
2 Sisters: Lura Briggs and Lara Spray;
Numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Harriet Ahlfield;
4 brothers: George, Pete, Henry and Charles;
3 sisters: Imogene, Dora and Minnie.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at
10:00 a.m. directly at Hammond New Harvest Worship Center, 1421-173 rd Street, Hammond with Rev. David Comer officiating.
Carl will lie in state at the church Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m.
Graveside Service will be on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., e.s.t. at Little Flock Cemetery in Shelburn, IN.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Sunday, March 16 th at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Carl was born and raised in West Salem, IL and has lived in the Hessville section of Hammond since 1959. He attended Lee Bible College and later worked in evangelism and assisted Pastor Easton. Carl was a member of New Harvest Worship Center and a former member of North Hammond Church of God.
Carl served in the U.S. Army during WWII with Co. "B" 534th Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment. He participated in the Philippine Liberation and Luzon Campaign. His favorite pastimes included gardening and fishing. Carl was very close to all his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle who will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
