Charles Henry Hansen, age 90, of Hammond passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at his residence. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Bertha L. (Villers-York) Hansen; two grandsons: Charles Derek (Tracey) Hansen and Shaun Erik (Angela) Hansen; four great grandchildren: Samantha, Cody, Kylee and Alyssa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his first wife, Eldeen Harrison Hansen; one son, Charles Erik Hansen; and parents: Erik and Lena Hansen. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Charles Henry Hansen will be held Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Ave., Hammond (Hessville), IN with Joseph J. Anweiler, Minister, officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family at Bocken Funeral Home on Saturday, September 4, 2010 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Charles was a lifetime resident of Hammond and was a 1940 graduate of Hammond High School. Charlie served his country during WWII with the U.S. Navy where he fought in the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign. He and his wife, Bertha built their home in the Hessville section of Hammond. Charles retired in 1981 after working for Lever Bros. in the Soap Lab for over 41 years. He was a member of the Lever Bros. Quarter Century Club.
