Charles O. Shike, age 82 of Highland, formerly of Hammond passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 20, 2012.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Julia "Fran" Shike (nee, Doolen);
Children: David (Darlene) Shike of Munster
Doreen (Lyle) Dankenbring of Palm City, FL
Dana (Andrew) Qunell of Munster and
Amy Shike of Highland;
grandchildren: Matthew Shike, Jennifer (Ryan) McMahon, Amanda (Nick) Wilkinson, Lyle Martin Dankenbring,
Vincent and Regan Qunell;
2 great grandsons, Nathan and Noah Shike
2 brothers, William (late, Trudy) Shike, Allen (Pat) Shike;
Sister-in-law, Charlotte Shike;
numerous nieces, nephews; and a host of dear friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Ruth Shike and one brother, Gene Shike.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. directly at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 8955 Columbia Avenue, Munster with Rev. David Comstock officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Tuesday morning, November 27th from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the church.
Bud was a lifetime resident of the Calumet Area and a 1949 graduate of Hammond Tech High School. He was a proud U. S. Navy veteran who faithfully served our country during the Korean Conflict.  He retired from General Electric Co. after 35 years of service. Bud was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post of Munster and Garfield Lodge #569 F.&A.M. Bud was an avid golfer and made his first "hole in one" at age 82.
He enjoyed watching his grandson play college football and spending time with each of his grandchildren. Bud was a loving and thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and a dear friend to many.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Bud's memory to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
