Daniel John Herr, age 54, of Hammond passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, August 25, 2013.  He is survived by three children: Jenine, John, and Amanda Herr and their mother Jane Herr; his father Lloyd (Mary) Herr; two brothers: Thomas Herr and Edward (Susan) Herr, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of dear friends. Preceded in death by his mother Helen Marie Herr.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 10:30am until 11:30am. A memorial service will be held at 11:30am with Pastor Jeff Beckett officiating.
Dan was a lifetime resident of the region. Graduate of Highland High School and Purdue University Calumet. Dan was employed at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital/Alverno Information Services for over 32 years. He enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing and bicycling and just loved nature.
Dan was a loving devoted father, son, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory may be made to University of Chicago Medicine, Comprehensive Cancer Center (Research Center) 5841 S. Maryland Ave. Chicago, IL 60637.
