Dorothy H. Ward, age 100, of Silver Spring, MD, formerly of Hammond, IN, entered into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. She is survived by her son, Donald E. Ward of Pittsburg, KS and her daughter, Denise Brewer (Parke) of Silver Spring, MD; four grandchildren: Christopher Ward (Jessica), Jennifer Glenn (Jereme), Bethany Hart (Brady) and Parke Brewer Jr. (Lauren); ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Earl R. Ward; her daughter-in-law, Susan Ward, as well as her four sisters and two brothers.

Dorothy was a lifetime resident of Hammond before moving to Silver Spring, MD in 2016 to be near her daughter. She was a 1941 graduate of Hammond High School. She supported the war effort by working at Pullman Standard in Hammond where M4 Sherman tanks were made. She was a member of the Harding PTA, the Morton Athletic Booster Club, the Hesseville Women's Club and was a faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for many years. Dorothy was also a member of the BP Amoco Retirement Club and volunteers, where she enjoyed making Braille Bibles for the blind.

Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation on Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, IN 46323. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Wybren Oord officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond.
