Edward "Ed" Elmer Murphy, age 85, of Hammond, entered into eternal life on Friday, December 18, 2015. He is survived by 4 daughters: Susan of Hammond, Annette and Janet of Hobart and Anna Murphy of Portage; 2 sons: James of Hobart and Johnny Murphy of Guntersville, AL.; 7 grandchildren: Jennifer, Michelle, Bobby, Nicole, John, Peggy Jo and Tyler;

7 great grandchildren: Alec, Cameron, Calli, Isaiah, Caleb, Connor and Camdon; 2 sisters: Barbara Jean (late J.P.) Beck, Evelyn (late Larry) Bryant both of Douglas, AL.; one brother, Ken (Chris) Murphy of Chicago; brother-in-law, Ray Colfield of Horton, AL.

Numerous nieces, nephews and good friends. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Dorothy Murphy; parents, Elmer and Ella Murphy; grandson, Aaron; 3 brothers: Frank, Ralph and Jimmy Murphy; 3 sisters: Eunice Cowart, Vinnie Swords, Joyce Colfield.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., directly at New Harvest Church of God, 1421-173rd Street, Hammond with Pastor David Comer officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville.  Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Ed was a resident of the Hessville Area for over 60 years. He was faithful member of New Harvest Church of God for many years where he served as an usher and volunteered in the food pantry ministry.  He retired from Inland Steel and was a member of the Inland Steel 25 year Club. Ed was a proud U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed fishing, camping and working in his vegetable garden. Ed was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed.
