Edward "Ed" Pondo

Edward Pondo, age 87, of Hammond, entered into eternal life on Monday, February 22, 2016.
He is survived by son, Thomas Pondo, daughter: Linda O'Connor;

6 grandsons: Travis and Craig Kowal, Malcom O'Connor, Ryan Blade, Adam and Zane Hunt;

brother, George (Penny) Pondo;

Numerous nieces, nephews and good friends.

Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Lora Faye in 2011; daughter: Barbara Hunt; parents: Thomas and Eva Pondo; brothers: Thomas, Walter, Benny, Emil and Josef; sisters: Josephine, Stella, Veronica, Helen and Lottie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.  DIRECTLY at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Rev. Charles Mosley celebrant. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Ed was a lifetime resident of Hammond, having lived for many years in the Roxanna Section.  He retired from L.T.V. Steel after 29 years of service as a pipefitter. Ed served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He earned a WWII Victory Medal and The Army Occupation Medal with "Japan" Clasp.

He loved "tinkering" in the garage and working on cars, he was always helping someone in need. Ed was a very kind and giving man; he was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Ed's memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation at alzfdn.org
