Edward Joseph Turner, affectionately known as Ed or ET, age 68, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 28, 2015. He was born July 8, 1947 to Kenneth and Helen (Bolanowski) Turner at St. Margaret's Hospital in Hammond, Indiana. Ed attended St. John Bosco School through eighth grade. He graduated from Donald E. Gavit High School in 1966.
He is survived by his beloved wife Shelia of 37 1/2 years; daughter, Joanna (Matt) Dillard, and two granddaughters: Grace and Lilly; two brothers: Greg (Carol) and Dennis (Debbie) Turner, three nephews, two great-nephews, two nieces, one great-niece, one great-great niece, many cousins, great-cousins plus many friends who loved him very much!
He is preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Helen (Bolanowski) Turner; his in-laws, Willard and Elizabeth Biggs; sister-in-law, Nancy (Biggs) Stanley; cousin, David Bolanowski; Uncles: Eddie, Joe, Chester and Adolph Bolanowski; Uncle John and Aunt Harriet Olszewski [all people whom he loved very much.]
Ed loved his family, his church and visiting here at Faith. As an alumnus of Gavit High School, he enjoyed "hanging out" at Gavit football, basketball and baseball home games. Since he was a faithful fan, Ed was awarded a Gavit Sports Sweatshirt, which he wore with pride. He was a US Army veteran who served in Vietnam as a MP on a military base. He earned a B.S. degree in Business Management from St. Joseph's (now known as Calumet College) and was employed at Mittal Steel for 33 years. He loved to play golf with his friend Rick and faithfully attended the Railcats baseball games in Gary either with his friend Jim or his son-in-law Matt.
Ed "fought a good fight and finished his course" faithfully. His and Shelia's theme song was always "Great Is Thy Faithfulness."
Visitation for Ed will be on Friday, December 4th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville), IN. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 5th at 11:00 a.m. , wiuth viewing from 10:00 a.m. until the service at Life Point Church, 7350 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hesville), IN. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery on 169th Street & Southeastern Avenue, Hammond, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to Life Point Church, 7350 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, IN or Faith United Church of Christ, 3030 175th Street, Hammond, IN.
