Emma Francis Rachau age 87 of Hammond, Born January 9,1926, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.
She is survived by her many nieces, nephews,and a host of dear friends.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 23 years John "Yogi" Rachau. Parents George and Clara Rettig. Sisters Mary Jo Kaufman, Betty Preston and Kay Qualls. Brothers John and George Rettig.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday May 4 , 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Directly at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 7132 Arizona Avenue, Hammond with father Charles Mosley Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Calumet Park Mausoleum in Merrillville.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday
May 3 , 2013 at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville)from 4pm-8pm and on Saturday at the church from 9.30am until the Mass at 10am.
Fran has been a resident of Hammond since 1969. She earned a bachelor and masters degree in education from St. Francis College, Ft. Wayne, IN. Fran was an elementary teacher for 43 years. For 18 years she taught in several parochial schools as a Franciscan nun (Sister Aline) eight of those at St. Mary's in Griffith, then S.S. Peter and Paul in Merrillville and in Highland Public Schools for 25 years, retiring in 1982.She was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Church where she was a choir member, Eucharistic Minister and Lector. Fran was a member of Lake County Retired Teachers Association and Lacare Art League.
She was a loving aunt and a beloved friend to many. Fran will best be remembered for her kindness toward others and her sweet spirit.
