Emory George Herring, age 72, of Hessville, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Dyer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Shirley J. Herring (Nee Lynn). Two sons; John Herring and Jeff (Sophia) Herring. Three Daughters; Catherine (Joe) Piech, Jody (Mark) Narantic and Jerri Wagner. Seven grandchildren and Three Great granddaughters. Preceded in death by his mother Catherine Herman and and his beagle and best friend Dinger. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 7.30 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville). Burial will be private. Friends are invited to meet with the family at Bocken Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 5pm until 8pm. George was born in Paducah KY, and was a long time resident of Hessville . He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran having served on the U.S.S. Tortuga. George was retired as a Switchman from the Inland Steel Company in 1994 after 30 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family and coached the Hessville little league for 8 years while his children were growing up. George was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts.
