Eugene A. Graban, age 91, of Hammond, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 25, 2018.
He is survived by his two sons: Brian and Garry Graban; grandson, Michael Graban; sister, Carol Dykiel; nieces: Lori (Mac) Sakal, Kathy (Jim) Murchek, Nancy (Bob) Kintner; nephews: Victor (Joan) Dykiel, Tom( Therese) Dykiel; numerous great nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Alice Graban; parents, Joseph and Anna Graban; brother-in-law, Victor Dykiel.
Gene was born and raised in East Chicago and was a 1946 graduate of Roosevelt High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran during WWII, and a member of American Legion Post #369. Gene was a longtime faithful member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and a member of the CFU Lodge #170. He was employed by Sinclair Oil and later BP Amoco Oil; and a member of Standard Oil Annuitants Club and BP Retiree Club. Gene enjoyed golfing, traveling to Arizona, watching the Chicago Cubs and Indiana University Athletics. Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend to many who were blessed to know him.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with a time of visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona Avenue, Hammond,(Hessville) with Father Charles Mosley celebrant.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the DAV at www.dav.org
The family would like to thank Dr. Benchik, Dr.Shwaiki, Dr. Jano, Dr. Brignol, Dr. Llobet and the nurses and staff of the IMCU at St. Catherine Hospital.
