Eugene A. Szczepanski, age 81, of Hammond passed away peacefully on Monday, September 12, 2016.
He is survived by one daughter: Paulette (David) Tapper; one son: Michael Szczepanski; eight grandchildren: Jacob, Joshua, James, Jason and Jenna Tapper, Charlie, Valerie and Ashley Szczepanski; one sister: Val Kolodziej; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Barbara L. (nee Zwoll) Szczepanski in 2006; parents John and Mary Szczepanski and numerous siblings.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville). Burial will follow at Concordia Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday, September 15, 2016 for a time of visitation from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home.

Eugene was a lifetime resident of the area, born In East Chicago, a 1952 graduate of East Chicago Roosevelt High School. He was a proud Army veteran where he served as a paratrooper.  Eugene was retired from Dover Chemical where he worked in operations. He loved spending time  with his family, fishing and bowling on his league. Eugene was a big Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He was a loving devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be dearly missed.
