Everet Rudolph Chapman, age 86 of Whiting, formerly of Hammond passed away peacefully on Monday, July 23, 2012.
He is survived by one daughter, Leta (companion, Paul Maloney)Chapman-Martin;
4 grandchildren: Scott Martin, Christopher Martin, Amy Koza and Matthew Chapman;
several nieces, nephews and dear friends and his companion, his dog "Babe".
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Delores Marie "Dolly" Chapman, nee, Houchin; 2 sons, Edward and Everet Thomas "Tommy" Chapman; parents, Obert and Geneva Chapman; 1 brother and 4 sisters and in-laws, Jack and Jenny Houchin.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Everet "Doc" Chapman will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at
2:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville). Burial will be private.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Saturday,
August 11th from 1:00 p.m. until the service at 2:00p.m.
Doc, as he was affectionately called by his family, or Chappy, as he was known by his co-workers, was a resident of the Hammond area for 71 years. He was a proud Ironworker and a member of Local #395. Chappy retired in 1986 and moved to Hartford, KY where he lived until a few weeks ago. Doc was a proud U. S. Army veteran and served his country during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. Everet was a member of McKinley #712 F.& A.M. He was raised by his maternal grandfather, James "Pap" Bishop, who taught him how to be a man, show kindness toward others and how to chew tobacco. Doc enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family and his dogs. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in favor of Hospice of the Calumet.
