Felipe Hernandez

Felipe Hernandez, age 86, of Gary, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Alicia Hernandez; 7 children: Gabriela (Michael) Huebner, Patricia (Michael) Maxwell, Judith (Felix) Torres III, Maria (Manuel) Vasquez, Felipe (Maria) Hernandez, Alfredo (Cecelia) Hernandez and Barbara (Alejandro) Yanez; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; siblings: Celia, Estela, Rosario, Luis and Micaela Hernandez; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Felipe was preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Maria Hernandez; siblings: Luz and Gabriel Hernandez.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Ave. Hammond, (Hessville) IN. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona Avenue, Hammond IN, 46323 with Father Charles Mosley. Private cremation will follow.

Felipe has been part of the region for over 50 years, he attended the Gary Catholic Diocese Churches of Holy Rosary and Holy Angels. He was retired from Union Local 597 where he was a pipefitter for over 45 years. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, riding his electric tricycle and visiting National Parks. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
