Frank Szeplakay, age 91, of Hammond, entered into the gates of heaven on Friday, April 4, 2014.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Rosemary, (nee, Cassaday);
4 children: Lynda (Mike) Orzen,
Richard (Candis Madison) Szeplakay,
Grace Anne (Charlie) Coates,
Frank Patrick (Cecelia) Szeplakay;
11 grandchildren;
14 great grandchildren;
niece, Debbie (Greg) Weismann; numerous dear friends and
his cat, "Shadow" a.k.a. "the Bowling Ball".
Preceded in death by his parents, Josef and Mary Szeplakay; Granddaughter Emily Szeplakay in 2001 and
sister, Julia Fiksdal in 2011.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at
11:00 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Pastor James A. Thomson officiating.
Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, April 7, 2014 at Bocken Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. &
6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
Frank was born and raised in Hammond and was a 1940 graduate of Hammond High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 2 nd Military Intelligence Training Battalion. He participated in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge; earning 5 battle stars and one bronze star. Frank was a longtime member of American Legion Post #232. After many years of service as an electrical foreman Frank retired from Sinclair Oil. His favorite pastimes included golfing, hunting, fishing and gardening. Frank enjoyed "tinkering" with small motors and was always repairing things for others.
He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle who will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Legion Post #232, 6523 Kennedy Ave., Hammond, IN 46323.
