Gayle Hamilton Rose Rogers, 82, of Hammond, Indiana, formerly of Bath, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

Born April 2, 1935, in East Chicago, Indiana, she was the eldest child of Richard "Pete" Rose (1908-1990) and Onnalee Curry Rose (nee Hamilton) (1912-2008).

An avid gardener and reader, Gayle cherished quiet time spent at home and with family. She attended Purdue University and was graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

Survivors include her beloved partner: Alan Perdew, of Hammond, IN; four children: Laurie Rogers (Stephen) Karl, of Eagan, MN, David (Mary Ellen) Rogers, of Bethesda, MD, Julie Rogers (Emmet) Davitt, of Catonsville, MD, Mary Rogers (Douglas) Downes, of Pittsbugh, PA; two sisters: Julia Rose and Mary Sanders; a brother: David Rose; eleven grandchildren: Megan Rogers (Hunter) Dallas , Alex Rogers, Christopher Karl, Emma Rogers, Meredith Davitt, Brian Davitt, Madeleine Karl, Patrick Davitt, Casey Davitt, Isabella Downes and Emily Downes; one great-granddaughter, Ann Catherine Dallas; and former husband and friend Richard H. Rogers and his wife Penny.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Gayle Rogers will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond, (Hessville) with Chaplin Mark Grobner, officiating. Private burial to follow. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a memorial visitation on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home.
