IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Alexander
Csicsko
April 18, 1932 – August 28, 2025
George Csicsko Born April 18, 1932, Died August 28, 2025
Our 93 year old dad George Alexander Csicsko passed away late Thursday night. George was the baby of his family, his parents came to the United States from Hungary via Canada and when our grandfather arrived in New York, he was told "no more Hungarians", and so he took the next boat to Canada. Pa & Ma (Joseph and Mary) Csicsko had their first child, Joseph, near St Paul Minnesota, then they made their way to a Hungarian neighborhood in Indiana Harbor, part of East Chicago Indiana. Next came Frank, John, Mary, Margaret and little Georgie. WW2 broke out and Joseph, Frank and John were called to serve, Dad's brother John lost his life in battle at Iwo Jima, Japan. My dad was the first in the family to own a car, he paid one hundred dollars for a good used Chevy. He went to Washington High School and met Gerri (Geraldine Glowacki), a nice Polish girl who went to Roosevelt High, at a dance. They started dating and the Korean War began. Dad was shipped off to the US Air Force Base in Northern England. He flew Gerri over and they were married at the base chapel. Mom and dad had a tiny off-base apartment in Widnes, England. They honeymooned in Rome, on an Air Force holiday junket and visited all of the sites. Mom had a tiny spy camera and took secret photos in the Vatican. When our dad's four years of service were finished, they took a military boat back to New York and then flew home to Chicago. Shortly after, first child David was born on George's birthday, the new family moved into a brand new neighborhood in Hessville in Hammond. Then came Julianne, Nora and Kathy. All of the kids went to swimming lessons, being a good strong swimmer was very important and the kids were on swim teams and all became lifeguards. Our folks loved taking us to the Indiana Dunes and other epic road trip family vacations. My dad worked in the steel mills as a welder until he retired. Their daughters married (Julianne & Walt, Nora & Jeff, Kathy & Ken) and had a total of nine kids of their own (Amanda, Thomas, Aliza, Teal, Briar, Kaile, Samantha, Hannah, and Michael), and five great grandchildren (Hailey, Rosie, Heidi, Adel, Jude and Jack), George and Gerri adored them all. In 2010 our folks, along with David's husband Dave and his sweet mom Alice Syrek all went on a life changing trip to Egypt to see the ancient treasures. Everyone loved the holiday on a boat on the Nile. Sadly just before Christmas George's beloved Gerri died of a sudden heart attack later that same year. Now fifteen years later, dad has joined mom in Hungarian paprika Heaven, dancing to Harry James. He had a good, long, very big life.
