George Joseph Stanny, age 86 of Hammond, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 31, 2010.

He is survived by one daughter; Mary Stanny

2 Sons: Michael (Pamela) Stanny and Phillip Stanny

2 Grandsons: Christopher and Philip Stanny

1 great granddaughter; Olivia Stanny

Nieces, nephews and cousins

Preceded in death by his wife of 41 years; Eugenia (nee, Stanczak) Stanny, parents; Michael and Francisca and several brothers and sisters

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010 with prayers at 9:30 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home

Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 6525 Kentucky Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Father Larry Kew celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Wednesday, November 3 rd at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) from 4 until 8 p.m. with prayers offered by Father Larry Kew at 7:00 p.m.

George born in Witowice, Poland on July 13, 1924. In 1939 he was taken to Germany as a P.O.W. When the war ended in 1944 he became a civil servant for the U.S. Army in Germany until 1949. George emigrated from his home in Poland in 1949 and became a U.S. citizen in 1952. He was a charter member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, member of Knights of Columbus St. Alfred's Council #4933 and Polish National Alliance. George was a pipe fitter at GATX and retired in 1989 after 35 years of service. He enjoyed spending time in his garden and being outdoors with his many friends and neighbors.
