Hertha Viola Wood, age 101, of Hammond, entered into the gates of heaven on Thursday, Christmas Day, December 25, 2014.

She leaves behind to mourn her loss: one son, Marvin Wood, loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Awaiting her in heaven, her beloved husband,

Charles Wood; 2 sons: Donald Wood and Estel Wood;

Parents,James and Mertle Phelps and one brother, Alvie Phelps.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 12:00 p.m., Noon at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Pastor Dan Nichols, officiating.

Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation at Bocken Funeral Home on Monday morning, December 29 ^th from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Burial will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville.

Hertha was born on July 18, 1913 in Kell, IL and moved to Hammond 68 years ago. She has been a longtime faithful member of First Christian Church of Hessville and a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was always very active and enjoyed being with family and friends. One of her favorite pastimes was to play games and pinocle was her favorite.

Hertha was a wonderful Christian woman who leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion for her family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her memory to First Christian Church of Hessville, 6733 Alabama Avenue, Hammond, IN 46323.
