Iris G. Skalka, age 91, of Hammond,  passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020.

She is survived by two daughters: Karen (Kevin) Erwin and Jean (David) Denst; three grandsons: Andrew Denst, Michael and Richard Erwin; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Iris is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Edward Skalka; parents, Peter and Jean Gilfillan and one brother, George Gilfillan.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation was private with no services to be held.

Iris has lived in Hammond since 1959, she was born and raised in Chicago. Iris retired from JC Penney in River Oaks, where she worked in the customer service department from 1987 until 1995. She was proud of the fact that at the age of 56 when her husband Ed died she went and got her driver's license so she could get a job; and she was able to take care of her father for 15 years after he had a stroke and needed 24 hour care. Iris enjoyed reading novels and other books, she liked watching baseball and cheering on her Chicago White Sox.
