James Edward Eaton, age 90 of Hessville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2014.
Jim was born to James and Minnie Eaton on April 28,1923 in Johnston City, IL.
He is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Ron) Wilson and Linda Gifford ;son in law Mickey Gifford; four grandchildren; Kim (Jerry) Jones-Riccioni, Jeffrey (Leslie) Gifford, Jennifer Wilson, and Natalie (Quinn) Hartmann, great grandchildren: Jody Wilson, Christopher and Michael Jones, Luke Hartmann, Kirsten and Matthew Gifford, sister:Mildred Bunch,  and brother Marion (Catherine) Eaton, numerous nieces and nephews. A special thanks to his doctor Alan Jones and care giver and  nurse Tracy Green.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years,
Dorothy Mae Eaton in 2007, his parents, James Harvey and Minnie Eaton, brother William and two sisters Rebecca and Lula.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 14,2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Pastor James Utley officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Friends are invited to meet with the family at Bocken Funeral Home on Thursday February 13,2014 from 4:00 PM until 8 PM.
Jim has been a  resident of the Hessville section of Hammond for the past 66 years and a longtime faithful member of Cline Gardens Christian Church. Jim was retired after 40 years from US Gypsum. He had proudly served our country  in the US Navy during WWII and served in the Asiatic Pacific Area earning the American Area Medal, Philippines Liberation Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Asiatic Pacific Medal with one Star. Nothing thrilled him more than sharing his war stories. He was a member of the Highland VFW Post 8141. Jim enjoyed serving others as he delivered Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed watching sports, working in his garden but most of all spending time with his family. Jim was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed.
