Sgt. James Bryan Medwetz age 51 passed away suddenly on Friday June 3, 2011 at St. Margaret Mercy Healthcare Center. Jim is survived by his two loving children Amber and James and their mother Jennifer. Parents Robert W. "Bob" (Carol Jo) Medwetz. Two sisters Lynn Clark and Dana Medwetz. One brother Joseph Medwetz. Special friend Nancy, and many Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends. Preceded in death by his Maternal Grandparents James H. (Evelyn) Miller and Paternal Grandparents Edward (Ann) Armitage.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday June 8, 2011 at 10am, DIRECTLY at Faith United Church of Christ 3030 - 175th Street, Hammond, across from the Jean Shepherd Community Center with Pastor Wes Helfenbein, officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family at the Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville ) on Tuesday June 7, 2011 from 2pm until 8pm. and on Wednesday at Faith United Church Of Christ from 9am until the time of the service at 10am.
Jim, a certified field training officer, joined the Hammond force in 1981 and served in the Patrol Section, Criminal Investigation Division and Support Division, and previously worked as a security officer in Hammond City Court. He earned numerous awards and commendations during his 29 years of active duty, and was promoted to sergeant in 1993. Jim followed in the footsteps of his father, Robert W. "Bob" Medwetz, a Hammond police officer for 33 years. The senior Medwetz retired in 1994. Jim is a member of F.O.P. lodge #51, whose members will conduct services on Tuesday at 7pm at the Funeral Home.Jim a life long resident of the Hessville section of Hammond was a 1979 graduate of Morton High School. Jim loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and most important spending time with his children and "will be fondly remembered as a husband, father and officer with an upbeat personality who took life's ups and downs in stride."
