James R. Matthews, age 81, of Munster passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Kathryn "Kathy" Matthews (nee Pudell); two daughters, Meghan Matthews and Morgan (Stephen) Sleeper; four grandchildren; Zoe and Zachary Sleeper and Addy and Seelie Reef; sister in-law, Marcia Matthews; four nieces, and many dear friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Ellen Matthews, and brother, Dr. Charles Matthews.

Private cremation services were entrusted to Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond. Friends are invited to a celebration of life service to be held DIRECTLY at First United Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6705 Hohman Avenue, Hammond, IN 46324 on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Michaile Broadnax officiating.
