Jesus Martinez, age 88, of Highland, formerly of Hammond passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 29, 2012.
He is survived by one daughter, Herlinda Oviedo of Hammond;
2 grandchildren, Jesse (Lazette) Oviedo of Hammond and Silvia Oviedo of Hammond;
7 great grandchildren: Jesse Jr., Jacob, Jonathan, Joshua, Gabriel, Rosie and Jazmine;
2 brothers, Santiago and Encarnacion;
2 sisters, Margarita and Lucy; nephew, Martin and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Genoveva Martinez; parents, Encarnacion and Margarita Martinez and one brother, Jose Martinez.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Pastor Modesto Garza officiating. Burial will at follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Saturday morning, April 7th from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 12:00 p.m.(Noon).
Jesse was a lifetime resident of the Calumet Area. He was a WWII U. S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Victory Post #168. Jesse was an electrician and worked for Hammond Electric Co. for 40 years. He was a talented musician playing both the accordion and the bass guitar. He enjoyed skydiving, traveling, his cats and he even loved to shop. Jesse had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for his infectious smile and his genuine love for his family. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Highland Nursing Home for the kindness and care shown to Jesse.
