Joan C. May, age 80, of Hammond passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Joseph A. May; daughter, Debra (Rick) Stempf; sons: Joseph J. May and John A. May; grandchildren: Scott Stempf, Ryan (Chandra) Stempf, Lisa Marie Ellis, Kelly May, Eric, Michael, Branden, Cayla, Caledonia and Brittany; great-grandchildren: Noah and Grace Stempf; sister, Ann Parchman; sisters in-law: Sheila Piechna and Sherry Childress; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Childress; son, Bobby Gene May; sister, Faye Stafford; brothers: Jerry, Michael and James Childress.

Friends are invited to meet with the family for visitation on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville). Private cremation to follow.

Joan was a long-time resident of Hammond; she enjoyedreading, doing crossword puzzles, watching QVC and spending time with family and friends. When she was well, she was a great cook and loved vacationing with Joe. Joan was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and friend who will be dearly missed.
