Joan Grace Leibengood, nee, Fritz of Lansing, IL was born on July 1, 1934 and entered into eternal life on Monday, January 28, 2013.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Wayne.
Joan was a loving mother to her children, Cindy (Terry) Cheek of Griffith and David Leibengood of Crete, IL;
Proud grandma to her grandchildren:
Kim (Danny Oliver) Cooper of Griffith,
Greg (Mary Uline) Cooper of Crown Point and
Robert Cheek of Griffith;
She is also survived by her brother, Duane (Corinne) Fritz of Dyer; nieces, Amy (Ron) Smith of Dyer and Jill (Duane) Keleman of Dyer; nephew, Paul(Tracie) Fritz of Lansing;
Many great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of dear friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Adeline Fritz, Sr.; brother, Robert Fritz, Jr. and infant sister.
Joan was an extremely accomplished pianist and organist and played in her home churches, Christian Fellowship Church, State Street Baptist Church and currently Cornerstone SBC Church all of Hammond. She began playing the accordion and piano at the age of 6. She was the original pianist for the Goodnewsman Quartet and accompanied them for over 6 years. Joan taught Sunday school in the kindergarten class at her various churches and for many years worked in the Children's Church class along with her daughter, Cindy and her dear friend, Nancy Molnar. Joan was a graduate of Illiana Christian High School Class of 1952. On June 5, 1954 she married the love of her life, Wayne Leibengood. Some of her hobbies included roller skating, knitting and working puzzles. Her greatest joy was caring for her 3 grandchildren. She is also survived by her "grand-dogs", Skye, Scooby, Scrappy, Wrigley and Maddux. She was an avid Chicago "Cubs" fan, "Go Cubbies"! Joan will best be remembered for her kindness toward others, her sweet spirit and her deep and abiding faith in Christ.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with viewing from 9:30 until the time of service DIRECTLY at Cornerstone Baptist Church, formerly Orchard Drive Baptist Church, 3425 Orchard Drive, Hammond (Hessville) with Pastors Scott Ferry and Bill Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, February 1, 2013 DIRECTLY at Cornerstone Baptist Church from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
