Jobie Edward Cowger, age 77, of Gary, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2014.

He is survived by three daughters; Tempie Riddle, Malanie Combs and Jodie (Patrick) Nelson, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three sisters; Peggy Gage, Jean Kinney and Vicky Greenslade, one brother; Arnette Cowger, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; Duncan and Ethel Cowger, three brothers; Junior, Arnie and Donald Cowger.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville) with Pastor Forest Ash officiating. Burial at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville will follow. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Bocken Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.

Jobie was born January 1, 1937 in Webster Springs, WV. He has lived in Gary for the past 40 years. He is retired from Jack Gray Transport in Gary as a Mechanic after 30 years of service. Jobie was a member of Teamsters Local 142 and the Portage Moose lodge #1900. After retirement Jobie built a racecar and was able to tour the country racing on dirt tracks. He enjoyed playing video games of racing as well, but most of all spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Jobie was a very loving and devoted father, grandpa, great grandpa and brother who will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Josephs Indian School Foundation at www.stjo.org/dreams.
