John C. Stemper Jr, age 77, of Hammond passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at Sebo's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hobart.  He is survived by his companion; Florence Stricklin; son John E. (LuAnn) Stemper; grandchildren: Aaron, Michael and Daniel Stemper; friend Simone Stemper; nephews, Robbie and Shannon Crider; many cousins and friends.           He was preceded in death by his parents John Charles Stemper Sr. and Doris T. Stemper (nee Maseotra) and one sister, Kathleen Crider.

There will be a brief service held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 DIRECTLY at Elmwood Cemetery's Chapel, 1413-169th Street, Hammond. Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Ave. Hessville in charge of arrangements. There will be no public visitation.

John was a Vietnam Veteran, having served in the U.S. Air force from 1962 to 1966 as an aircraft mechanic. He was retired from the Boiler Maker's union. John enjoyed motorcycles and was a Brother in the Invaders Motorcycle Club. He also enjoyed fast cars and was a loving father, grandfather and friend.
