Jon Hinkel, age 83, of Hammond entered into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

He is survived by his sons: Timothy (Rosemary) Hinkel, Ryan (Jo) Hinkel and Brandon Hinkel; sister, Wanda Archer; grandchildren: Melody (Travis) Joaquin, Jonathon (Madison) Hinkel, Adam Hinkel and Emily Hinkel; great-grandchildren: Rylee Hinkel, Nora Hinkel, Araiah Joaquin and Axel Joaquin; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife Melody Hinkel (Nee Wakefield); parents Wilber and Mary Hinkel (Nee Harris) and sister Linda Finchum (nee Hinkel).

Friends are invited to join the family for visitation on Thursday October 19th from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond Indiana 46323. A funeral service officiated by Pastor Richard Wakefield will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. with interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Schererville.

Jon was a lifetime resident of Hammond where he graduated from Hammond Tech Class of 1959. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was retired from Arcelor Mittal Steel Company after 37 years as an electrician. In his free time, he loved to fix anything that could break and was an avid fisherman. He especially looked forward to trout fishing in Missouri with his family.
