Joseph Kozy, age 82, of Hammond, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. Survived by his beloved wife, Roseann of 57 years; three sons: Mike (Wendy) Kozy of Griffith; Steve (Diann) Kozy of Crown Point; Mark (Sheryl) Kozy of Munster; 4 grandchildren: Rhiannon, Lauren, Olivia and Denham; Sister-in law and brother-in law, Gloria (Ted) Garwon and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his son, Thomas and parents, Edward and Mary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. directly at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 7132 Arizona Ave., Hammond (Hessville) with Father Charles Mosley, celebrant. There will be a time of viewing at the church Monday from 9:15 a.m. until the Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Hammond. Friends are invited to meet with the family for a time of visitation on Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Ave., Hammond (Hessville).
Joe was born and raised in East Chicago where he graduated from Washington High School, class of 1951. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Allied Post #369 of East Chicago; whose members will conduct a service Sunday at 6:00 p.m. Joe was a dedicated and hard worker; he worked at Inland Steel for 35 years, was on the maintenance staff of St. Catherine of Siena parish for 20 plus years. After retirement from Inland Steel, he continued to work and joined the housekeeping department at Saint Margaret Mercy Hospital in Hammond for 10 years, retired and decided to join Ultra Food for five years. He was a member of Holy Name Society and Usher Club of St. Catherine of Siena Church.
Joe was a lifelong Cubs fan, an avid bowler, gardener, mushroom hunter and loved to play cards with his friends; but most of all a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather.
